Leopard is rescued after becoming impaled on metal spike while trying to scale wall

A leopard howled in agony after becoming impaled on a spike when it tried to jump over the iron gate of a factory.

It had managed to scale the 10-foot wall, but when he slipped his hind leg was pierced and he was trapped.

The four-year-old beast was spotted by walkers yesterday morning as it struggled to get free and a rescue operation was immediately launched in Mysore, India.

The distressed animal was tranquilised and then vets managed to gently lift it off the spike and carry it using a large net.

Still unconscious he was shifted to a veterinary hospital nearby, where the doctors stitched the wound caused by the iron spike and provided treatment.

This is the third time a leopard has been spotted in the vicinity of the BEML factory.

According to forest officials, the injured animal will be treated first and later set free in the forest.

Speaking to The Hindu Dr. Suresh said the leopard had sustained injuries on its right limb and close to his abdomen but they were not too concerned about its condition.

There was not much bleeding or fracture of the limbs so the animal was expected to make a quick recovery, he added.
