13-foot python found in family pool

MIAMI -- A 13-foot-long Burmese python was found swimming in a South Florida family's pool.

Suladie Miranda tells WSVN-TV that she called 911 as soon as she saw the snake curled up in a corner of the pool Sunday.

Miranda's niece described the snake as "brown and big."

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's Venom Unit removed the snake. Capt. Jeffrey Fobb told WTVJ-TV on Monday that the reptile will be used to train authorities for future snake captures.

Pythons are an invasive species in Florida, where they can be found in the Everglades. Fobb says that because this snake was found so far from the Everglades, it may have been released by someone who could no longer care for it as a pet.
