World’s most expensive camera from 1923 sells for more than £1m - at least it still works perfectly

A picture is usually worth a thousand words - but they are worth a lot more if taken by the world's most expensive camera - worth more than a staggering £1MILLION.
The extremely rare model, a Leica 0-series was described as in 'excellent and fully working condition' by Vienna's WestLicht gallery, which organised organised its sale at auction.
It was bought for a world record £1.15m by a private collector from Asia who wanted to remain anonymous, the gallery said.

The camera was one of about 25 prototypes made in 1923, two years before the German brand went into commercial production.
It had been valued before the auction at about £273,000.
A gallery spokesman said: 'It's the only camera known with Germany engraved on the top plate.

'The factory record indicates delivery to New York for patent applies.
'This means this camera is not only one of the major existing rarities, it is also the first Leica being exported.'
The previous world-record price for a camera was set last year when a collector paid £732,000 for a daguerreotype - the world's first commercially produced camera.
