World's tallest female basketballer dies at 37
The world's tallest female basketball player has died, along with her unborn baby, after suffering a heart attack at age 37.
Malgorzata "Margo" Dydek, who stood at 218.4cm, had been in a medically induced coma in a Brisbane hospital since going into cardiac arrest on May 19, Fox Sports reports.
The Polish-born Woman’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) star had been living in Brisbane and coaching a team from the Queensland Basketball League, the Northside Wizards.
Dydek, affectionately dubbed "Large Marge" by teammates, started her career in the WNBA after being selected by the Utah Starzz as the number one draft pick in 1998.
She played for the Starzz for seven years before moving to Connecticut Sun in 2005 and ending her career at the Los Angeles Sparks.
Dydek held the record for the most blocks in a WNBA career, with 877 blocks in 323 games.
She is survived by her husband David Dydek and their two sons.
