Teacher accused of writing 'stupid' on student's forehead

LIVINGSTON, Tenn. -- A teacher in Overton County, Tenn., has been suspended without pay while he's investigated for writing "stupid" on a student's forehead.

Matt Eldridge, director of Overton County Schools, said the first-year teacher is accused of using a marker to write the word last week. According to the Cookeville Herald-Citizen, Eldridge would not reveal the teacher's identity until the investigation is complete.

He said the teacher taught middle grades. He quoted the teacher as saying he was just joking with the student.

Eldridge said the incident happened in front of several other students. He said he will move for dismissal of the teacher once the investigation is complete.
