Blade on fighting cock's leg kills man
A 35-year-old man attending an illegal cockfight in California died when he was stabbed in the leg by a sharp blade attached to the leg of a fighting bird. Jose Luis Ochoa died of his injuries after his right calf was slashed. "I have never seen this type of incident," Sergeant Martin King told the Bakersfield Californian. He said a major artery could have been cut. John Goodwin, director of animal cruelty policy for the Humane Society of the United States, told the paper, "It's pretty rare, but I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often considering the knives they put on those birds." London's Daily Mail recently reported that a man in India died when his fighting rooster slashed his throat. The paper said the bird attacked its owner when he tried to push it back into the ring.
